Robbins Real Estate
The town of Robbins, with a population of about 1,200, is distinctly different than many other communities in Moore County, because of its location in the northwest corner of the county. Robbins lies in the Piedmont region of North Carolina, meaning the town sits on clay soil rather than the sandy soil found in the rest of the county. The foliage is much more diverse than the pine forests elsewhere in the county, with a variety of hardwood trees.
Robbins has a storied history, encompassing more than 200 years. Its roots can be traced to 1795, when a Revolutionary War soldier began a gun factory here. After the factory closed in 1838, the economy shifted to agriculture and benefited temporarily from a minor gold rush. The Durham-Charlotte Railroad reached the town at the turn of the 20th century, and a mill was built here in the 1920s, becoming a central element in the community's development until closing in 1990. The town was named for mill owner and philanthropist Karl Robbins in 1943.
Since the mill's closing, Robbins' economy is now based on a number of small businesses. The town also attracts a number of tourists, thanks to almost two dozen working potters in the area and the increasing popularity of North Carolina pottery.
