West End Real Estate
The community of West End earned its name as the western-most stop of the Aberdeen and Asheboro Railroad. The railroad extended to the area in the late 19th century, after Daniel McDonald cleared a path for the railroad to reach the turpentine distillery, to facilitate the transport of timber from the pine forests of western Moore County to nearby commercial areas.
After a fire destroyed much of the town in 1898, Stanley Furniture Company was built here, a business that stayed in operation into 2002. The area now has a strong agricultural focus, with several thousand acres of peach orchards. West End is also home to the 80-acre Troy Douglas Lake, offering swimming, boating, fishing, and the McClendon Hills Equestrian Center.
